Classical
Dressage
and
Yoga
(Continued)
|
The
classical
yoga
that
is
needed
to
achieve
this
kind
of
discipline
and
insight
is a
dedicated,
selfless
attitude
of
practicing
without
regard
for
the
weakness
of
the
body
and
mind.
This
allows
one
to
break
through
the
general
human
weaknesses
and
"hang-ups"
that
seem
to
prevent
us
from
becoming
beyond
exceptional
in
our
undertakings.
Highly
sophisticated
yoga
practice
enables
one
to
put
into
practice
a
daily
routine
that
allows
the
deduction
of
one
hour
of
usual
sleeping
time
for
each
hour
of
doing
yoga.
Therefore.
the daily
schedule
remains unchanged.
This
tremendous
discipline
gained
-
gives
the
rider
the
ability
to
possess
greater
endurance
than
that
of
the
horse.
(
Most
riders
tend
to
give
up
active
or
passive
resistance
just
a
split
second
before
they
would
have
been
successful
in
having
the
horse
give his
submission
to
them.
)
This
lack
of
endurance
on
the
rider's
part - in
turn
-
causes
harsh
treatment
of
the
horse
by
the
rider
...
who
is
thus
defeated.
As
the
result,
the
nobleness
necessary
for
the
rider
to
gain
respect
and
admiration
from the
horse
...
is
therefore
sadly
lost.
|
If
we
are
the
slaves
of
our
weaknesses
-
we cannot
harness
the great
power
of
the
horse
in a
kind
and
gentle
way.
By
studying
at ,
whatever
purpose
brings
you
to us
-
you
will
gain
an
understanding
of
the
concepts
of kindness
and self-discipline
that
are
absolutely
necessary
in
order
for
the
dressage
rider
to
achieve
the
goal
of
riding
"classically"
...
...
as a
REALITY
instead
of a
theory.
|
|
differs
from
most
conventional
schools
that
claim
to
teach
classical
riding
by
cultivating
genuine
love
and
respect
for
the
horse, oneself
and
the
sincere
desire
to
pass
those
qualities
on to
our fellow
equestrians.
For
those
who
have
misunderstood
the
concept
of
yoga
as
applied
to
riding :
Yoga is NOT a "religion" - it is used here at

to
develop
riding
qualities
and
relaxed
discipline
in
unusually
high
degrees
in
order
to
achieve
the
relationship
and equestrian
tact
that
the
noble
horse
deserves.
|
|
Some
people
are
born
with
these
qualities.
They
do
not
need
to do
yoga
to
achieve
this.
We
call
them
"born
riding
talents".
All
they
require
is
guidance
towards
that
goal.
Participation
in
yoga
practice
is
NOT
mandatory
